The purpose of this study is to analysis the influence of fishing villages experience programs choice by the tourist characteristics. As an analysis method, a statistical technique of multinomial logistic regression was used. The dependent variable have typified about 70 fishing experience programs, such as tidal-flat experience, fishery experience, and fishing experience, operated by the fishing village experience recreation villages into 9 programs. The independent variables consisted of 7 groups of people: gender, age, marital status, presence of children, experience of visiting a village in a rural and fishing village experience, preference of a village in a recreational experience, and recognition of a village in a fishing village experience. As a result of analysis, no significant differences were found that the selection group preferring ‘fishing culture experience’, ‘leports experience’, ‘ecological craft experience’, and ‘festival and event experience’ in the selection of fishing village experience program compared to the group choosing ‘rural experience’. On the other hand, the group preferring ‘tidal flat experience’ analysis that ‘married’ is about 14 times higher than ‘unmarried’, and the group preferring ‘fishing village experience’ is 9.55 times higher than the group preferring ‘rural village experience’. In the group preferring ‘fishery experience’ and ‘fishing experience’, the group preferring ‘fishing experience recreation village’ was 9.21 times and 14.34 times higher than the group preferring ‘rural experience recreation village’. In the ‘food experience’, ‘married’ was 25 times higher than ‘unmarried’.
Comparing Subjective Landscape Perceptions between the Native and Non-native Residents in Suburban Rural Area - Searching for a Landscape Management based on the Characteristics of Urban to Rural Migrants -
As the importance of rural landscapes has recently emerged due to an increase in number of urban to rural migrants into suburban area in Korea, this study empirically grasps the differences in subjective landscapes perceptions between native and non-native residents. and tried to explore new landscape management possibilities through the role of each residents group. To this end, based on the data collected through the ‘photo-elicitation with walking’, the residents’ landscape perception objects, perception factors, and perceived feelings are derived, and then the differences and characteristics of landscapes perception between native and non-native residents group were analyzed. As a result, native residents perceived everyday landscapes relatively meaningfully and provided abundant information in all aspects, while non-native residents mainly recognized characteristic landscapes and responded more sensitively to visual and environmental perception factors than the natives. Non-native residents also showed strong willingness to improve the degraded landscapes. These results are expected to provide a basis for exploring the role of residents in rural landscape planning and management in the future.
The purpose of this study is constructing a regional-level crop acreage choice model incorporating the impacts of producer risk aversion, and applying the constructed model to the Korean policy that promotes rice paddy conversion into non-rice crop fields. The study adopts the approach of Paris (2018) which estimates the absolute risk aversion coefficient inside of a positive mathematical programming model. A panel data set of 143 cities/counties is used for the empirical study where agricultural land in each region is allocated to 8 crops. Our estimated absolute risk aversion coefficients are smaller than those of Paris (2018), but are a little bit larger than those of the existing Korea studies based on survey or econometric methods. We found that there are close relationships among the estimated risk aversion, regional characteristics, and farming patterns. We also found that incorporating the estimated risk attitudes results in substantial differences in the impacts of the rice paddy conversion policy.
While agricultural water has been declared free in Korea to ensure access to these limited resource since the year 2000, farmers have however developed lackadaisical behavior towards water saving leading to its scarcity. To overcome this problem, a variety of experience-oriented education model was developed for farmers to promote the adoption of water conservation, and preventive measure against the drought impacts. In this study, farmers’ awareness and their attitudinal behavior of agricultural water savings were investigated. The monitoring of water supply structure and the repair facilities in Pohang and Yeongdeok areas were conducted. The field visits and behavioral surveys showed a high degree of over-use and illegal water withdrawals by the farmers due to poor water-saving and management practices. We found that most of the KRC employees strongly admitted the necessity of water-saving education. On the other hand, the farmers showed good interest in the implementation of water-saving awareness through education. Besides this, most farmers agreed to adopt water-saving practices in the fields. Farmers also acknowledged the recklessness of water use was due to the aging of waterways, poor water management, and illegal water consumption. The majority of the farmers responded against imposing the water-use tariffs. However, there was a low response to paying the water-use charge. Aging agricultural facilities and the lack of institutional penalties or incentives were the major obstacles in achieving efficient water-saving. Considering the current drought frequency, urgent water-saving education of farmers was deemed necessary to prepare the farming community against the water shortages. Based on the results of this study, we have to identify the irrigation practices of farmers and provide water-saving education to enforce more efficient use and management of agricultural water.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between types of self-care activities and demand of agro-healing services in adults with disabilities. Data were obtained from a survey of 160 adults with disabilities dwelling in Korea and SPSS 25.0 software was used for frequency, descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The main results applying the Behavioral Model for vulnerable populations were as follows: 1) among the different types of their self-care activities, the mean of passive perceptions score was 1.13(SD=0.81), the mean of physical behaviors score was 3.01(SD=1.04), the mean of social relationships score was 1.40(SD=1.42) and the mean of agro-healing services utilization per year was 4.30(SD=2.55), 2) passive perceptions and social relationships in their self-care activities positively affected demand of agro-healing services, 3) age, perceived physical health, perceived mental health, region of adults with disabilities were also significantly associated with demand of agro-healing services. Based on these results, practical and political implications for promoting self-care activities and agro-healing services in adults with disabilities were discussed.
The Dynamic Effects of China’s Agricultural Technology Progress and Agricultural Environment Grants on Agricultural Development - Focusing on 3 Dongbei Province in China -
Agricultural research and development (R&D) investment has contributed not only to agriculture but also to the overall economic growth of the country. The recent arrival of the fourth industrial revolution has raised the need for agricultural R&D as a preparation. Agriculture R&D is directly related to the fourth industrial revolution in the agricultural and livestock sectors that utilize big data, robots, artificial intelligence and cloud. Meanwhile, subsidies or grants are considered the most widely used means of policy. Therefore, in light of the current situation in which Chinese agriculture values R&D investment, this study attempted to analyze the dynamic relationship between variables by establishing a model of agricultural environment subsidy representing the role of government, agricultural technology progress representing existing agricultural R&D investment, agricultural income representing agricultural development and total agricultural output. The analysis results showed that each variable’s reaction to the rise in China’s agricultural R&D investment has a positive effect on agricultural development, in line with the theory that the investment in science and technology in the agricultural sector has a positive effect. In addition, the response of each variable to China’s rising agricultural environment subsidy is shown to have a positive relationship, which can also be said to be in line with the theory that the government’s market-friendly intervention is beneficial to economic development.
The Status, Problems, and the Direction of Development of Land Use in Reclaimed Land - Survey for Local Governments and the KRC Branch in Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam Province -

The purpose of this study was to determine the problems of reclamation sites and the prospects of farming in reclamation areas seen by local governments and the KRC branches in Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam provinces. A mail survey method was used. The survey items were set for 15 items regarding the reclamation site situation, problems, and prospects. Seventy-five copies of the questionnaire were distributed to the local government, and 90 copies were sent to the KRC 165 copies in total. In response to the questionnaire, 72 recipients of the local governments responded, showing a 96% response rate, and 74 (82.2%) of the KRC responded. The overall response rate was 88.5%. The opinions on the rental method of the reclaimed land were found to differ according to the geographic conditions of the reclaimed land, the construction conditions, and the time. Regarding the survey on crops preferred for cultivation, rice was highest in both local governments (61%) and KRC (46%). When cultivating field crops in reclaimed land, 56% of local governments and 57% of KRC considered salinity a s t he most problematic or resolvable problem. Regarding growing other field crops in reclaimed land, salt and drainage problems were recognized as the biggest obstacles in all reclaimed land. As for technologies that need to be applied first for the future agriculture of reclamation land, KRC responded with automatic water management (48%) and local governments responded with unmanned agricultural machinery (32%). In order to diversify the land use in the reclamation area, it is necessary to reduce salt damage and ensure systematic maintenance, employing, for example, automatic water management facilities and drainage improvement methods. The results of this study can set a land use direction for reclamation sites and provide useful information for use in various forms.
Since the Republic of Korea had been registered as the 24th member of OECD DAC in 2009, recent trend of Korea’s ODA has showed drastic increase including agriculture and rural development sector. Particularly, various rural development projects have been implemented adopting development experience and methodology of Saemaul Undong (SMU, New Village Movement). This study implemented statistical analysis between villagers’ participation and achievement of rural community development project, based on practical data out of ‘Saemaul Undong Project in Myanmar’,1) to suggest meaningful implication in terms of participatory rural development. It emphasized the importance and necessity of villagers’ participation in rural development through regression analysis that proved positive correlation between villagers’ participation and rural development project. It proves that income-generation part has significantly greater influence than capacity-building and living environment part in terms of rural community development project: Based on the analysis, comparing impact of each independent variable, income generation has 1.88 and 1.68 times greater impact than capacity-building and living environment respectively. The result, on the other side, rather raise the importance of careful consideration for project design and implementation to harmonize those three parts altogether especially rural development for developing countries: capacity-building and living environment parts suggests essential foundation to make income generation successful that enables to secure project achievement and sustainability.
The purpose of study was analyze the pumping characteristics, Irrigation Efficiency(IE), and irrigation pattern by period of rice growing stage with based on the performance of design irrigation water requirement and operational Galshin Pumping(GP) station in GP irrigation district constructed under rural water development project master plan. GP station was located in Yedang reservoir, Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do and has been supplying irrigation water since 2006. The research data are the Irrigation Water Requirement(IWR) and the Pumping Water Amount(PWA) from 2006 to 2015 at the GP station, which is the supplied amount. The IWR were calculated using the Blaney-Criddle formula of the HOMWRS program, Hydrological Operation Model for Water Resource System, developed by Korea Rural Community Corporation. The Blaney-Criddle formula was used to calculate design irrigation water requirement of Galshin rural water development project master plan. During 2006-2015, the study period, the annual average IWR is 763.2(±149.1)mm, the annual PWA of the GP station is 397.4mm to 1,056.9mm, and those average annual PWA is 643.4(±208.4)mm. The annual IE of GP station 96.5% to 169.0%, and the average annual IE is 124.3%, which is higher than the research results conducted in other pumping stations. Analyzing the irrigation patterns of the GP irrigation district, the IWR Ratio per 10days(IWRR) and the PWA Ratio per 1 0days(PWAR) of the GP station were obtained. The IWRR is the percentage of IWR for each 10 days of a month to total IWR per year, and the PWAR is the percentage of PWA for each 10 days of a month to total PWA per year. The Kolmogorov- Smirnov(K-S) test results of IWRR and PWAR showed the characteristics classification by rice growing stage and stable normal distribution characteristics. Average IWRR(AIWRR) and Average PWAR(APWAR) are presented as irrigation patterns. Irrigation pattern analysis will be able to standardize comparison, analysis and probability calculation of the pumping station characteristics of different pumping stations and apply to objective evaluation of the pumping station district.
Land price can be affected by convenience or psychological repulsion like PIMFY (Please In My Front Yard) or NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) for various facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether non-preferred facilities are related to NIMBY impact that negatively affect land prices using the spatial econometrics models which are spatial autoregressive models (SAR), spatial errors models (SEM), and general spatial model (SAC). The land price in urban area increases by 0.07-0.2% when the distance from aversion facilities increases by 1%. However, the land price in rural areas decreases when the distance from aversion or pollution facilities increase. Therefore, these facilities in rural areas located in the areas with higher land price because funeral homes located in center of rural administrative areas and charnel house or crematorium located in the fringe of urban areas. That is, this study explain the difference between land price and non-preferred facilities in urban and rural areas and why there are more NIMBY symptoms in urban areas.
This study designed an extended technology acceptance model incorporating and combining TPB, TAM, UTAUT, and IDT, which are known to be useful in explaining technology acceptance intention, to analyze antecedents affecting smart farm acceptance intention from the perspective of policy handlers. In the model of this study, nine independent variables were set, including subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, attitude, perceived usefulness, performance expectation, effort expectation, social impact, promotion condition, and fitness. The effect of these variables on farm acceptance intention was analyzed. The study found that four factors, including perceived behavioral control, perceived usefulness, social impact, and fitness, had positive effects on the acceptance intention of smart farms. Of these, perceived usefulness had the highest impact. In conclusion, all the TPB, TAM, UTAUT, and IDT applied to the research hypothesis to explain the smart farm acceptance intention included on or more variables with significant effects. In other words, these theories were evaluated as useful to explain the acceptance intention of smart farms.
